2017 Liberty Bell: Never A Dull Moment

 Division 4:

Fagerlin Inches Away for Victory, Heritage Christian Academy Charges Late to Steal the Show

The first to tackle the course were the Division 4 boys, who rocketed on the starting line, each ready to set a new personal best.

The pace settled quickly, however, allowing for a pack of eight runners to float cohesively through the first mile. SkyView Academy packed three runners up front, but the second half of the race haunted them.

Christian Fagerlin of Resurrection Christian used a late surge to gap Holy Family's Kyle McCabe. Fagerlin cruised up the final hill to the finish, holding onto his lead despite a late sprint by McCabe. Fagerlin crossed the finish line in 16:23, just ahead of McCabe's 16:27. Heritage Christian's Seth Bruxvoort finished third in 16:40, and he would lead a charge of Eagles into the top 10.

Heritage Christian used a late charge to steal the team race with 45 points. The Eagles stacked Keaton Chase, Isaiah Browsher and Josiah Browsher into the top 10, finishing sixth, seventh, and ninth, while Hunter Hermsen rounded out the scoring in 20th.

Skyview Academy faded to finished second with 85 points while Holy Family finished third with 95 points.

Gaylord holds on for victory, Holy Family takes the team title

Telluride senior Soleil Gaylord didn't hesitate to state her intentions in the girl's 4A race. Gaylord shot out of the start quickly and refused to allow anyone to keep pace.

The senior opened up a quick gap over Colorado Academy's Anna Ponzio, and it was one she never relinquished.

Gaylord entered the final straight to the finish among the back of the boys 4A race with Ponzio seven-seconds back. Gaylord finished in 19:06 to Ponzio's 19:13. Gaylord's time is a minute faster than any of her competition in 2A.

28 seconds behind Ponzio was Holy Family freshman Alyssa Wells, who finished third in 19:41. Wells was the first of three Holy Family runners to finish in the top 10, the other two being Taylor Santangelo, who finished eighth, and Gabby Thomas, who finished ninth.

The trio led Holy Family to the team title, with Kika Napierkowski and Isabelle Hren capping off the scoring by finishing 13th and 14th.

Holy Family dominated the team race with 38 points. Colorado Academy finished second with 58 points while upset Moffat by finishing third with 121 points.
