Division 2 Varsity Girls Race: Tiya Chamberlin Vanquishes the Contenders

In a much closer affair, Wheat Ridge's diminutive Tiya Chamberlin led a pack of five or six tightly bunched girls through the first two miles.

Included in this group of west metro area athletes were Addi Iken of Littleton, Kasey Klocek of Green Mountain, and Golden's Jadyn Goodrich and Mary Fox. Not too far off at this point was another Golden girl, Rachel Goodrich, as well as defending champion Joslin Blair of Eagle Valley.

It was at precisely the two-mile mark where Chamberlin had determined to make her break. And she did.  She ever so slightly pulled away from the remaining west siders to finish in 18:40, and a nine second victory over Iken. Klocek was next, becoming the third girl under 19:00. Places four and five belonged to Goodrich and Fox.

Chamberlin, a true sportswoman, and the daughter of Wheat Ridge coaches Judy and Scott Chamberlin, graciously mingled in the finish chute offering congratulations and sweaty hugs to her fellow competitors.

Golden's 4-5-7 finish set them up for a fine score of 61 points and an 18-point margin of victory over D'Evelyn. Holy Family's 94 points secured 3rd place.
