2017 Centennial League: Grandview and Cherokee Trail To The Top

Varsity Boys Race: Grandview Rides High

Eagecrest's Mason "DJ" Brown has had a fine season up to this point, and today was no exception. Brown has demonstrated outstanding potential since his freshman year, but his success has often been limited due to a slew of injuries or illness over the years. Finally, last track season he had a bit of a break-out which the Raptor senior has carried over into this fall.

Brown, who's won several meets this season, ran comfortably in the pack for nearly the first mile before setting off on his own pace to break things open. Surging up Butterfly Hill, Brown was tailed by teammate Gavin Morgenegg, the Grandview duo of Caleb Randolph and Matthew Fox, and Cherry Creek's Jared Scott.

Once back into view on the looped course, Brown had vanquished all others and cruised across the finish with an easy 18-second victory. His time of 16:16 seemed to barely tax him. Likely so, given he's run in the 15:30's on a couple of occasions recently. He seems poised to take a crack at the 5A title in two weeks' time and has to be considered one of the contenders.

Dipping by for 2nd place was Randolph, just a smidge ahead of Jared Scott. Randolph's teammate Fox was next, setting the tone for the Wolves. Morgenegg, spent from the heat, finished 5th.

Grandview easily won the league title. They managed a mere 46 points, placing all five scores in the top 16. Up-and-coming Overland was second with 82 points - easily their best finish in years. While host Cherry Creek finished third.
