Leap Of The Week: Hayley Rayburn

Hayley Rayburn went 12-9 this past weekend at the Great Southwest Classic.

It's not every week that the phrase "leap of the week" will be as literal as it is this week, but there's no denying the sharp curve of improvement Hayley Rayburn has taken over the past year, or even the past month.

This time a year ago Rayburn was one of many 9-1 Colorado pole vaulters. But she made fast gains in her junior season, going 10-11 at the state championships to finish third in 3A, and eighth in Colorado. Three months later she went 12-1 at the ATB Churchyard Pole Vault Meet, and she wasn't done there.

After starting the 2018 indoor season at 10-0, the Platte Canyon senior added five-inches to her personal best nearly three weeks ago, going 12-6, and then another three-inches to the tally this past weekend at the Great Southwest Classic, where she went 12-9.

The mark vaulted Rayburn into the No. 15 spot in the country, and No. 2 in Colorado. While she is the No. 3 returner in 3A (based on last year's results), clearly she's got her sights set on walking all the way to the top of the podium this year.
