Sloan Advances To Semi With A Blistering 8.07

Emily Sloan ran a nation-leading 8.07 in the first round of the 60 hurdles at the USATF Indoor Championships yesterday.

A month ago we were all picking our jaws off the floor when Emily Sloan ran an 8.33 for the 60 hurdles, then again after she ran 8.21 last week.

While her 8.21 stood as the No.3 mark in the country, it didn't last. Because here we are again, picking our jaws off the floor as Sloan went 8.07 for a new US No. 1 mark in the first round of the 60 hurdles at the the USA Indoor Championships yesterday. Competing against seasoned professionals, Sloan needed a personal best to move into today's semifinals, so that's exactly what she did. While she finished fourth in her heat and has the ninth fastest time heading into today's semi, she'll likely need another PR to move into the finals.

To put her time (8.07) into perspective:

Here's how Sloan would rank among the boys: She'd be No. 25 nationally, and No. 2 in Colorado. And the Oregon-commit looks primed to continue her success in the collegiate ranks, because her time would rank her No. 7 among Division 1 women. Clearly the Ducks have got a talent headed their way.

And did I mention her time is just .05 off the high school national record?

UPDATE: Sloan capped off her big weekend by running 8.15 in the semi final, which was the second fastest 60H of her career. Unfortunately, the time wasn't quick enough to get her into the final.

Also at the meet, Sydnee Larkin went head-to-head with some of the best professionals in the country. Larking finished 11th in the triple jump with a mark of 40-11.5.

UPDATE: Anna Hall finished ninth in the high jump with a mark of 5-9.75.
