This Saturday evening, the competition heats up on the track for distance runners across the country. The Midwest Distance Gala is just what it sounds like--a track meet devoted solely to the contesting of distance events.

The time of day is ideal for these races: the first race doesn't start until 7:38 PM (CDT). The final race of the evening, the boys mile, starts at 9 PM.

At least four, and possibly more, Colorado athletes are among the entries. From Regis Jesuit, Danny Nicolls (two mile) and Ryan VanPortfliet (800) will be running. Also slated to compete are Clif Campbell of Fort Collins (two mile) and Walter Schafer of Cherry Creek (mile)

The Midwest Distance Gala organizing group will be issuing press releases throughout the days leading up to Saturday's event. As those releases update information about Colorado contestants, this article will be updated.
