2018 CSML Meet: A Few Into State Under The Wire

4A Boys

Let's be clear about this from the start--the 4A CSML is so designated on account of team sports, not meet sports. Sierra, Woodland Park, Elizabeth, and The Classical Academy are all 3A when it comes to track and field.

To nobody's surprise whatsoever, Harrison's Tyrese Van Horne was a triple winner. He has no peers in this league in the 100, 200, or 400. We find out next week if he has any peers in 4A. Van Horne is more of a pure 200/400 type, but his wheels are adequate for a whole lot of 100s as well.

It's reasonable to guess Van Horne shows up in a 4x400 next week as well. If so, that could mark Harrison as the team to beat in that event, too.

The three distance powers in the 4A CSML divvied up the distance events among themselves. Ryan Outler took the 800 for Widefield's win. Canaan Lamberth took the 1600 for TCA's win. And, David Fine notched one for Elizabeth in the 3200. None of the races were especially close.

Despite running solid times, Elizabeth's Mason Anthony left the meet without a hurdle title. Elijah Whatley did the honors in the 110s, and Eli Grant followed up in the 300s. Expect to hear from all three at State, however.

Woodland Park and Canon City got in on the event title party with Skye Ciccarelli winning the high jump at 6-5 and Brendan Young taking a pair of horizontal jump titles. Chase Graves scored another win for Woodland Park in the pole vault.

TCA held ground in the throws with wins by Brady Miller in the discus and Rhys Ryba in the shot put.
