Shining Mountain Waldorf and Heritage Christian Shine in 1A

Emma Schaefer was unstoppable. She won the 1,600 and 3,200 going away.

Zariah Mason stormed to 100 state title. The senior ran away with a 12.70 victory, which was the only mark under 13 seconds. The 200 and 400 were much closer races, however.

Faith Novess claimed the 200 title in 26.93, just ahead of Cristen Houghton, who ran 27.00. The title was just one of four for Novess over the weekend.

Benisa Ellis and Skyla Miller took the 400 to the line, with Ellis taking the crowd in 1:02.39 to Miller's 1:02.90.

In the 800 the race belonged to Leeann Wagner, who ran away for a two-second victory. The senior ran 2:25 to win a state title in her final weekend of high school.

Emma Schaefer was a dominating force in the distance events. There no stopping there senior, who cruised to victories in the 1,600 and the 3,200. Schaefer won the 1,600 in 5:29 - an eight-second victory, and the 3,200 in 12:11 - a 16-second victory.

On that note, all signs point to freshman Rebecca Hittle taking the thrown of distance queen in coming years, as she took second to Schaefer in both races.

Novess ran away with two more state titles, claiming the 100 hurdles in 15.94, and the 300 hurdles in 47.30. Her 15.94 is a new state meet record, breaking the old one by a hundredth of a second.

The high jump saw a four-way tie for first, as Jerraldawn RectorMatalynn Dawson MaKayla Baker, and Novess all went 5-1.

Rector got her time on top of the podium, however, in the long jump, where she went 16-3.25. Likewise, so did Dawson, who won the triple jump in 34-6 - that's just two inches off the state meet record.

Marina Flandrick led three over nine feet in the pole. Flandrick's 9-10 won the event by six inches.

In the throws Mariah Smith took the discus with a toss of 133-8 - that's a new state meet record, while Heather Graham dominated the shot in 39-5.5. 

The relays belonged to Springfield, as they won four of five.

In the 4x1 Kim took Springfield to the line, though it was Springfield who emerged victories with a 52.71 victory over Kim's 52.88. Springfield added victories in the 4x2, 4x4, and the Sprint Medley Relay - which they set a new state meet record in. Claiming the 4x8 was Plateau Valley, who ran away with a 10:28 victory - that broke the previous state meet record by two-hundredths of a second.

In the team competition Shining Mtn. Waldorf claimed the state title with 94 points. Behind them, Springfield and Heritage battled for the runner up spot. Springfield took the honors with 65 points, just ahead of Heritage, who scored 62.
