Blazing At The Bell

Cole Sprout paced his way to a dominating 15:33 victory.

Runaway wins in Division 1

Cole Sprout opened his season as to be expected - with a win, and fast. The Valor Christian junior used Liberty Bell as a workout, though still impressed.

"The goal was to run a hard tempo," Sprout explained. "I went out conservative, then picked up the tempo the second and third mile."

Sprout's tempo eased him away from the competition as he raced on entirely solo. To entertain his stride he kept his thoughts on the moment, and the moment of this season, of which he has big aspirations for. His mind gravitated to a song that reminded him of what's ahead.

"I was thinking of this song by Kyle called "Moment," Sprout shared. "I was trying to hype myself up mid-race."

When he powered up the final straight, eyes set forward as he took business-like strides, there wasn't a negotiable shadow in sight. While it was the first race of his season, Sprout made the most of this moment, and took a dominating 15:33 solo-victory.

In the team competition Loveland took the W with 93 points, while Ralston Valley was second with 120 points.

In the girl's race the day belonged to Isalina Colsman

"I was going out there to give me all," Colsman said. "I wanted to race my race."

The run-my-race strategy worked, because the Regis Jesuit junior made no competition of the race, telescoping away for a 22-second victory in 18:07.

Behind her a hot team race was brewing. Heritage and Ralston Valley were battling for spots, and ultimately it was the home-team that closed out the race with a solid 4-5 to win 81 to 97.
