Five Bold Predictions For The Season Ahead

Manson Writes The Final Chapter Of The Story And Sets A New Pole Vault Record

Perhaps this one isn't so much bold as is it exciting to contemplate: A 33 year-old record may fall at the hands of the record holder's son.

It's one of those truth-is-stranger-than-fiction storylines, without the strange part. Perhaps it's just a story that needs no embellishment to be great.

Son Topples Father's Three Decade Old Record

Pat Manson went 17-7.5 in 1986. His son, Max Manson, took down his state meet record of 17-3 last year, going 17-3.5 to the chuckle of the crowd who knew what the half-inch meant.

This year Manson looks to be in the driver's seat heading into the outdoor season. He's already gone over 17 feet four times during the indoor season, which was a feat he didn't accomplish once during the 2018 indoor season.

Four inches is a long way to go, surely Manson knows that better than anyone in the same way a 4:01 miler knows how far a 3:59 is better than a 4:05 miler, but he seems on track to achieve the feat, and etch his name into the record books. "Pat" and "Max" are three-letter names, which I'd imagine easy to swap.

I predict Manson gives the crowd another chuckle this spring and goes 17-8 for a new state record.
