Q) Talk about the recruitment process - what other schools were you looking at, and how did you come to choosing the Northern Arizona University?

During my recruitment process, I looked at Northern Arizona University, the University of Utah, UCCS, and Colorado State. I didn't even consider going to NAU until the end of December, when I decided on a different major for college that opened up which schools I could attend. I absolutely loved my visit to NAU - I felt so welcomed and like I was already a part of the family, and my goals aligned with the goals of the coaches and team. NAU also has an amazing academic support system for their athletes, and by the time I got home, I knew I would be attending NAU.

Q) What do you plan to study at NAU?

I will be studying Marketing at NAU, and pursuing a minor in Studio Art. I chose to study marketing because it will give me lots of flexibility for my career after college. I'm also hoping to participate in student government.

Q) What got you into track and field in the first place?

I grew up around running - my dad is a ultra-runner, and when I was younger my friends and I would spend hours racing each other around the block. I played soccer, ran track, and was also an equestrian, but decided to focus on track in middle school because of track and field's positive and supportive community.

Q) You've had success in everything from the horizontal jumps (long jump & triple jump) on over to the 400, what would you say is your favorite event, and why?

My favorite events are the 4x400m and the triple jump. I love the 4x400m because of the team atmosphere around the event - at Real Training everyone goes crazy for the 4x400m, and there is no better feeling than hurting with and for your teammates. Triple jump is also one of my favorite events because it is so technically challenging. I have to think about what I'm doing with my whole body in a different way than any of my other events, and there are always things I can improve on.

Q) What event do you see yourself focusing on at NAU?

I'll be doing the 400m, 200m, long jump, and triple jump at NAU, as well as relays. I'm glad I'll be continuing to compete in all of my events at NAU.

Q) Could you share any goals you have for the upcoming track season?

My first goal for this season is to remain healthy and injury free. Last year I had some injuries and sleep issues that hindered my season, and I'd love to be able to finish my senior year feeling good. My second goal is dependent on my first - I'd like to place in the long and triple jump at state, as well as the 4x400m.

Q) What would your favorite high school moment be (so far)?

This isn't one moment, but my one of my favorite high school memories was fall training with REAL Training Colorado this past fall. Every day, the whole team showed up ready to work hard. We pushed ourselves and each other, and saw ourselves getting faster and stronger. I have never been a part of such a focused group, and will always remember the incredible relentlessness and team spirit at REAL.
