Broomfield Shootout Lives Up To The Hype!

Slang high-scoring or intensely played game or tournament, as of basketball or ice hockey.

Ok. So there was no basketball or ice hockey going on, but "intensely played" seems to fit the Broomfield Shootout, minus the word "play" which implies everyone was giggling their way around the track.

In that sense, no. It was more like huffing and puffing, because there were some insane performances Saturday, and quite a few doubles.

There was Keirryse Simpson winning the 100 and the 200.

There was Sydney Holiday going two-for-two, winning the 100 and the 100 hurdles.

There was Connor Ohlson winning the 800 and the 1,600 - and that 800 is a new Colorado No.1.

There was the sister duo of Joslin Blair and Samantha Blair claiming two exciting races in the 800 and 1,600, both against Anna Shults.

There was Austin Vancil dropping a state-leading 9:25 in the 3,200 - he now owns No. 1 times in the 1,600 and the 3,200.

There was the Return Of Layla Roebke and her state-leading 11:03 in the 3,200.

There was Dillon Andrews with the hurdle-double, winning the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles.

There was Mia Manson claiming two wins, one in the long jump, and the other the pole vault with a state-leading mark of 12-0.

There was Samuel Dirkes with two monster throws to claim the double in the throws - the shot put and the discus.

There was Logan DeRock claiming the double on the girl's side of the throws, throwing 41-10 in the shot, and 134-1 in the discus - both new state-leading marks.

And there was Taylor James winning the 200, and the 400 - that 400 being a state-leading mark and US No. 6.

So yeah, "intense" is perhaps an accurate word to describe the Broomfield Shootout. It was a big day, with big, big performances.
