Demons Rage At The Demon Invitational

Delaney Phillips tallied two runner-up finishes, and one victory.

The girl's side of the competition saw a slew of top-tier talent from across the state. 

Railey Largent was the big winner in the 100. The DeBeque freshman blitzed the field in the final, running 12.85. Delaney Phillips was close second in 12.99.

Phillips tallied her second, second-place finish of the day in the 200, finishing behind Gracie Bradfield's 26.78. Phillips ran 27.26. 

The Rifle junior did get a W before the day ended, however, as she won the 400 going away in 1:01.58. 

Speaking of going away, Megan Maley used a second-half surge to run away with the 800 in the lone sub 2:30 performance, running 2:27. 

In the 1,600 there was no keeping up with Basalt's Sierra Bower. The sophomore cruised away with a 5:20 victory to beat Chloe Veilleux's 5:27. 

Likewise, Rebecca Hittle telescoped away for the win in the 3,200, running 12:40. 


In the 100 hurdles Faith Novess was the class of the field. The DeBeque senior dropped a 1A state-leading 16.10 to win the event by well over a second.

Novess also won the high jump in 5-3 over Sequoia Kellogg, who finished second in 5-2.

Speaking of dominance, Megan Jenkins was a runaway winner in the 300 hurdles. The Cedaredge freshman was a clear two seconds in front of the competition, running 47.82. 

In pole vault Phoebe Young was the lone competitor to clear 10 feet, winning the event with a 10-1 mark. 

In the jumps Shaya Chenoweth emerged as the victor of the long jump. She won the event with a 16-8.5 leap, which was seven inches ahead of Kellogg's 16-1.5.

In the triple jump Poppy Lightfoot had more pop in her step and feet so light there wasn't anyone who could go the distance with her. The Paonia senior was clear of the field with a 34-00 victory.

Likewise, Sydnie Main was a dominating winner in the shot put, winning the even with a 37-8.5 toss. 

In the discus Megan Shelton lead four over 100 feet. Her 112-0 winning toss downed the field by three feet. 

In the team competition Glenwood Springs held their ground by claiming a narrow 3 point victory over Meeker. The Demons tallied 77 points to Meeker's 74. Cedaredge was close third with 71 points.
