Colorado Rankings: A Big Weekend In The Field

Railey Largent ran a 1A state-leading mark at the Demon Invite Saturday.

There wasn't a ton of movement on the tops of the all-classification rankings this week, but there was a lot of moving and shaking within each classification. Additionally, this was a massive week in the field events.

Starting on the track,  the 800 just got a little more interesting...

Cruz Culpepper ran his first 800 of 2019 at Pomona, and it was a state-leading 1:55.22. The addition to this story, however, is Ian Kelly. The Heritage senior dropped nearly three seconds from his personal best to run a Colorado No. 2 of 1:55.70.

1. It was a big, big weekend in the field events, and 2. For those of you who haven't heard the name Brendan Young, write his name down.

The Canyon City senior added an entire foot to his long jump this past weekend at the Petrelli & Hunt Invitational. Seriously. Young leapt to a 23-9.5 PR, which is a state-leading mark, and currently No. 7 in the country

And what are the odds that Colorado would have two long jumpers crack the US Top 10, and go well over 23 feet on the same weekend?

Micaylon Moore added a few inches to his already stellar PR by going 23-8.5 at Pomona. That's now No. 2 in Colorado behind Young, and No. 8 in the country.

Colorado now has two long jumpers hovering within the Top 10 in the country.

Moving on up to the triple jump Allam Bushara inched a little further ahead in the rankings. The Fort Collins senior did go 48-0.5 in Arcadia last week (which is a US No. 4), but his 47-9.5 from Pomona is a Colorado No. 1.

Kain Medrano proved that last week's 192 in the discus was a mere warm up, because he's now officially flirting with 200 feet.

The Pueblo East senior fell just an inches short of the mark, literally, throwing 199-9 feet. Medrano is currently No. 5 in the country in the discus

On the girl's side of the competition Colorado now has its first Sub-11 3,200 clocking of the season.

Riley Stewart achieved the feat just two weeks after coming a second and a half short. The Cherry Creek freshman dropped a 10:59.66 at Pomona.

Another name to write down this week is Kajsa Borrman

The Loveland freshman just added a jaw-dropping 15 feet to her discus this past weekend at the Mountain Range Mustang Invite. Borrman won the event in a state-leading 145-6.

An interesting side note: Borrman opened her season at 112-10.5, then went to 127-9, then on to 130-3, and now 145-6.

Where's the ceiling?
