Taylor James won the 1,600, 200, and high jump, and finished second in the 400.
It was yet another beautiful day for track and field, and it appears that everyone took advantage of it!
Longmont High played host to the the Boulder County Championships, and this year's edition of the meet proved to be a real burner.
When the dust settled, it was clear that Niwot felt right at home in Longmont...
Highlighting the girl's side of the meet was once again Taylor James. The Niwot sophomore claimed Colorado's first Sub-5 1,600 of the season with a 4:59.35 victory over Quinn McConnell, who ran 5:00.42.
James went head-to-head with Mead's Abby Glynn in perhaps the fastest 400-meter battle in the state this season, so far. Glynn was able to nab the win in 54.79, just ahead of James, who ran 54.93. Both times went under the pervious meet record.
Glynn doubled back to win the 300 hurdles in a state-leading 44.11. She brought Tara Hitchcock along to a 44.63 runner-up finish.
James also dipped down in distance to win the 200 in 25.23, which was just ahead of Mia Manson's 25.61, and shifted over to the field, where she won the high jump in 5-3.
Manson nabbed another runner-up finish in the 100, this time to Sydney Holiday.
The Broomfield junior ran away with the win in the 100, running 11.96, just ahead of Manson's 12.23.
Manson did get a W before the day was over, two in fact. The Monarch junior won the pole vault in 11-9, and the long jump in 18-7.5
Nicole Schubert and Logan Kuskie both went 10-9 to finish second to Manson in the pole vault.
Anna Shults was the runaway winner in the 800, running 2:15, just ahead of Lauren Felknor's 2:19.
Peak to Peak 4x8 turned heads as well, running a state-leading 9:18.
Speaking of relays...
The Niwot boys ran Colorado's first Sub-8 4x8 of the season. Their 7:55 leads the state by 11 seconds.
In the sprints Gavin Schurr was the double-winner in the 100, and 200, while Daniel Ford was the lone quarter-miler to crack 50, running 49.50 FTW.
Jack Kenkel and Luke Johnson cracked 2 in the 800 with Kenkel taking the win in 1:57 to Johnson's 1:58.
Johnson did get a W before the end of the day, however. The Monarch junior won the 1,600 in 4:26.
Nolan Johan was a double winner in the hurdles, winning the 110 and 300, which handed Niwot much-needed points in the team race.
Speaking of double-wins, Samuel Dirkes made no contest of the throws, winning the discus in 171-2, and the shot in 56-8.25.
In the pole vault it's clear that Max Manson is revving up his engine. The Monarch senior and state-meet record holder went 17-3 FTW before attempting 17-8. Clearly, he's got his father's Colorado state record in his sights...
Another big performance also came in the pole vault, where Hunter Potrykus went 15-3.
