Oh, So Close At St. Vrain

Eddie Kurjak went 6-4.5 to win the high jump.

On the boy's side of the competition Cian Quiroga clearly came ready to roll. The Valor Christian senior sent his shot to the cement backing for a state-leading 62-3.5. That's the lone 60+plus shot in the state this year, and it's No. 27 nationally. Quirgoa also won the discus with a toss of 165-7.

In the sprints Cameron Harris did Cameron Harris things. The Brighton senior ran away from the field in the 100 Hurdles, running a meet record of 14.37.

Likewise, Dane Palazzo dropped a 38.75 in the 300 Hurdles FTW.

In the 800 the show belonged to Cruz Culpepper. The Niwot junior dominated the field with a 1:54.31 victory. Luke Johnson was the runner up in 1:56.81.

David Cardenas dropped a 1:53 split in the 800 to anchor Central's (GJ) 4x8 to victory.

And how about that 3,200?

9:28.57.

That was the current 3,200 state-record holder's (Cole Sprout) freshmen PR in the 3,200.

Erik Le Roux?

9:28.77.

(Additionally, Sprout ran 4:22.01 in the 1,600 as a freshman - Le Roux has run 4:21.73...)

Le Roux dominated the field in the 3,200, running away for a 10-second victory over Ben Morrin, who ran 9:38.

Heading to back the field Braeden Holcombe went big in long jump. The Palmer Ridge junior added four inches to his best to win the event with a 22-8 leap - that's No. 9 in all-classifications.
