The 4A State Recap: Niwot Cleans Up

On the girl's side of the competition Ereana McCallister capped her high school career with a big victory in the 100, winning the event by three-hundredths of a second over Kaleah Ruff. McCallister clocked a 12.37 over Ruff's 12.40.

One of the biggest highlights coming out of the 4A competition had to be Taylor James

The Niwot sophomore completed the unique triple of winning the 200 in 24.76, the 400 in 54.25, and the 800 in 2:08.29, and she anchored Niwot's state winning 4x4 - so that's four state titles for James.

Her 200 and 400 victories came over Abby Glynn, who was a close runner-up each time. Gylnn would get a state title before the weekend was over, but we'll come back to that...

In the 1,600 sisters Lizzy Harding and Naomi Harding kicked late for a Harding 1-2. Lizzy dipped under 5, running 4:58, while Naomi finished second in 5:00.38, which was just ahead of Madeleine Burns, who finished third in 5:00.91.

All in all, nine broke 5:10.

Burns and Samrawit Dishon coupled for a thrilling finish in the 3,200. The Durango junior and Niwot junior both clocked in at 10:53, with Burns taking the event .63 to Dishon's .76. Joslin Blair finished third in 11:00.

In the 100H Zion Smith finally captured that state title. The Northfield senior cracked 15, running 14.69 to win the event over Elise Gillett, who ran 14.96.

As mentioned earlier, Abby Glynn did get a state title - in the 300H. Glynn and Smith battled to the line, this time Glynn got to cross first, running 44.35 over Smith's 44.89.

Speaking of hotly contest events, the high jump...

Raina Branch and Raquel Reese both cleared 5-6, while Tara Hitchcock won the long jump outright with a 18-4.5 leap over Branch's 17-5.

In the triple jump freshman Agur Dwol stepped up to the big stage and performed. The Mullen freshman won the event with a 37-2 leap. Grace Lange was close second in 36-10.75.

Grace Szucs saved her best for last. The Palmer Ridge senior captured the state title in the pole vault in a new PR of 11-4, which was just three inches above Alexa Oatman's 11-1 runner-up finish.

The queen of the throws went out in style.

Logan DeRock defended her state titles in the discus, and the shot put. She threw 142 in the discus to beat Gya'ni Sami by 11 feet, and 42-0.75 to win the shot over Shannon Vivoda.

In the relays Cheyenne Mountain took down Niwot in the 4x1 for a state title, but Niwot came away with big victories in the 4x2 and 4x4. Mead captured the state title in the Sprint Medley, while Battle Mountain battled Eagle Valley for the 4x8 state title, with Battle winning the war.

In the overall team competition Niwot made a sweep of 4A, winning with 123 point. Battle Mountain was second with 58 points, and Eagle Valley was third with 47.
