Q) Talk about the recruitment process - what other schools were you looking at, and how did you come to choosing the University if Nebraska?

Some of the other schools I was looking at included CU, CSU, Oregon State, and Kansas State. I chose Nebraska because of the amazing coach and program.

Dusty Jonas, the high jump coach, is very knowledgeable and always wants the best for his athletes and their careers. I also wanted to get away from home, and I thought Lincoln would be a great town to spend my next 4 years in.

Q) What do you plan to study at Nebraska?

As of right now, I'm not sure what I want to study. I've thought about going into business, because it's a broad topic that's very applicable to most career paths.

Q) What event do you see yourself focusing on at Nebraska?

High jump, and maybe do some of my other events depending on how they progress this year. I plan on continuing to do long jump and hurdles this year, so I think that will help me figure out which events would be the best fit for me in college.

Q) You've had an incredible amount of consistency throughout your high school career - what would you say attributed to this?

I would say my consistency is due to my coaches and my training. I've been fortunate enough to have great coaches who care about me as a person as well as an athlete.

They've told me when it's okay to take a recovery day because of a nagging injury, and when it's time to push through a workout that I really don't want to do. I could've handled both of these situations differently, had it not been for my coaches.

My training goal every year is to be stronger and better than I was the previous year, and also to remain healthy. These are two things I feel like significantly contribute to my consistency.

Q) The first results we have on you on MileSplit is 4-2 high jump at the DCSD Middle School Championship in 2015 - what do you remember from this competition?

I remember thinking it was a big deal, and I also remember thinking that I still had no idea what I was doing.

Q) What got you interested in the high jump in the first place?

I decided to go out for track in 7th grade, because I thought it'd be a fun thing to do with my friends. During this time I was doing gymnastics, so it took me a lot of convincing to try out for track. We got a chance to try every event, and I ended up liking high jump a lot. The coach said I had some potential so I stuck with it.

Q) Could you share any goals you have for your senior year?

My main goal this year is to jump 5-9 - 5-10 in high jump. I also hope to improve my hurdle time. With this being my second year running hurdles, I feel stronger and more confident than I was last year.

Q) What would your favorite high school moment be?

My favorite high school moment would have to be taking 2nd at state freshmen year. I jumped a huge PR, and I remember thinking how surprised and excited I was. Up until this point I was still doing gymnastics, so I wasn't very serious about track. But state meet was kind of a turning point for me, and I realized that this is something I really wanted to focus on.
