The gauntlet has been thrown!
Cruz Culpepper ran the fastest mile in the country Saturday night at the UW Invite in Washington.
The Niwot senior dropped a big personal best of 4:01.65 and could be the first athlete to threaten the sub-4 barrier in 2020.
The time is a US No. 1 by a staggering eight seconds, and is the fastest by a high schooler since Brodey Hasty ran 4:00.05 in 2018.
Of additional note -- that's the fastest by a Colorado high schooler, ever.
Let the chase begin!
