Air Force HS Open: Schurr Rises To The Occasion

Records were falling like flies this weekend, and while Schurr was staking his claim in the sprints, Yasin Sado did so in the 800.

Heading into the meet there was much talk about Jake Merrell's meet record of 1:55.14 being taken down - and with good reason - Sado's 1:28.1 1,000 from a few weeks ago.

And Sado delivered.

The Gateway senior cruised through the early stages of the 800 before throwing down the hammer. Sado trounced on the field and the modest early pace to run off and away with a new meet record of 1:54.75 - a US No. 9.

As impressive as the time and run was, add that it was done at 7,048 feet.

Moving up in distance

Grant Bradley captured a big win the mile over a stellar field that included Mason Norman and Erik Le Roux. Bradley kicked hard for a 4:27.49 victory over Norman, who kicked late for a 4:28. Le Roux finished third in 4:31.

Edward Rush proved that he's made a big jump over the winter.

The Castle View senior trounced the 2 mile field Friday night with a stellar 9:42 clocking - that's just five seconds off his outdoor 3,200 PR.

The boy's high jump was an exciting and competitive affair. Kaso Lovern-o'riley nearly went 7-0, but still claimed the competition with a 6-8 mark, which was just ahead of Doherty's Donte Marsh, who went 6-6 for a PR.

In the shot put Albuquerque Academy's Teagun Glenn dominated the field with a toss of 53-10 - a PR.

The meet also had a new addition - the pentathlon, which was yet another highlight (story coming). Claiming the event for the boy's was Braeden Holcombe, who tallied 3,662 points - a US No. 2. Taking the girl's title was Karen Villa, who tallied 3,002 points - a US No. 11.
