High Country Hustle At The Western Colorado HS Open

The girl's sprints were filled with some exciting battles that went to the line.

Kristin Cook gave the Colorado sprint-world a subtle hint as to what's coming outdoors.

The Fruita Monument sophomore ran three personal bests in the span of just two hours. Cook led the field in the prelims of the 60, running 7.79, then came back to shave off another hundredth of a second to win the final in 7.78 - a Colorado No. 9

Cook added PR No. 3 of the day in the 200, where it came down to the wire between her and Ayana Brown

Brown dipped under 26 for the fourth time this season to win the event in 25.91, just ahead of Cook's 25.95.

The Rangeview senior also claimed the long jump in dominating fashion - she went 16-11.5.

Jordan Burnett had a busy day - she tripled, running the 60, the 200, and the 400. Like Cook, Burnett rewrote her PRs from the 60 on up to the 400.

She took the runner-up spot in the 60, third in the 200, but she did get a W before heading home from Gunnison - she won the 400 in a stellar 58.81 clocking. That's a Colorado No. 5

Rhyan Moore joined the PR party, tallying personal bests in the 60 and the 200, but her big performances came in high jump, where she cleared the field - and 5-4 to win the competition just one inch shy of her PR in the event.

Meanwhile Jordyn Weis and Payton Bailey took the triple jump competition into the inches. Both cleared 32 feet, but when the sand settled, it was Weis who had the W with a leap of 32-10.5. Bailey was just six inches back in 32-4.5.
