Three Predictions For The Season Ahead: 3A

Sierra Bower Reigns Over The Distance Events

You could say the Rise Of Sierra Bower started about a year ago. Though, I'm pretty sure she'd say it started over the winter months when no one was watching.

The Basalt junior gave Colorado a hint as to what they'd see during the 2019 cross country season last spring - that's for sure.

After dropping a 10:54 3,200 PR at Arcadia, she jumped on everyone's radar - and that was just the beginning. She dipped under 11 at State, running 10:57 to finish second in a tight race, and ran a 5:12 PR in the 1,600 to finish eighth.

And then she got rolling.

Last Fall Bower dropped the fastest time of the day - among all classifications - at the State cross country meet, running 18:01 on a course that rarely sees sub-18 clockings. Another mind-bending fact was that she only lost one race in Colorado.

Over the course of the past year Bower has gone from good to great, proving that she is legit.

Despite no state titles on the track (yet), she's in prime position to ascend the wooden stairs to the very top in coming months.

Fans will want to keep an eye on the clock in May, as the 3A state meet record in the 1,600 is 4:57.44, and the 3,200 state meet record is 10:52.49 - both times within reach for Bower.
