Throwback Thursday: Grant Fisher Goes Sub-4

Grand Blanc's (MI) graduate Grant Fisher became the seventh high school athlete in history to break four minutes in the mile. At the 2015 Nike Festival of Miles, Fisher placed third in a professional race. A month prior to this race, one of Fisher's biggest competitorsMatthew Maton of Summit (OR) ran 3:59.38. Fisher ran the exact same time as Maton in this race.

All eyes were on Fisher. Through the first 400 meters of the race, he was running comfortably in the mid pack. He was averaging 60 seconds per lap, but needed to pick up the pace the last 800. He steadily started to move up the pack, and with about 200 meters to go he moved up into second place. The crowd was on its feet to help bring him home in the final 100.

He crossed the line in third with a time of 3:59.38 behind Jordan McNamara's 3:58.81 and Tyler Pennel's 3:58.99. The top three finishers in this race were the only athletes who ran under the four minute mark.

Maton and Fisher ran the fastest time in the country in the mile in 2015. Maton continued his track career at the University of Oregon and Fisher continued his at Stanford University.
