Flashback Friday: Yasin Sado Triples At 2019 State Champs

One state title is nice.

Two is great.

Three is ridiculous.

Add that it was all at one meet - the 2019 Colorado State Track and Field Championships.

It's been a year since Yasin Sado achieved the rare feat of sweeping the the distance events, and even now it's still impressive to look back on.

For a 3A distance runner (Sado competed for Denver West in 2019) that meant racing the 3,200 and the 800 on the same day - Friday - and the 1,600 halfway through Saturday.

In other words, Sado captured three state titles in the span of about 26 hours.

Title No. 1 came Friday morning where he ran away from Mason Norman for a 9:29 victory the 3,200. The two would meet again with similar results about 26 hours later in the 1,600.

Title No. 2 was perhaps his biggest challenge - a strategic late-kick in the 800. Braden Bartlett nearly denied Sado the opportunity for a sweep, as Bartlett's raging final kick was nearly enough. Sado battled Noah Smith early through the final lap before Bartlett made his bid, but it was all Sado in the final 40 meters for his second state title of the day in 1:56.25.

On the third and final day of the meet Sado ran away in dominating fashion, and made sure to send out three fingers for three state titles after torching the field in the final lap of the 1,600.

Like the 3,200, it was Sado and Norman. And like the 3,200, Sado made no contest of the final lap, running away for title No. 3 in 4:20.64.

Adding to Sado's excitement was the fact that his brother - Ahmed Sado - kicked late for a Sado 1-2 finish.
