Flashback Friday: Avery Wright Sweeps The Sprints

It's been a year since Montezuma-Cortez's Avery Wright swept the 3A sprints - as a freshman.

While she was denied the opportunity to defend her titles as a sophomore, the dominance of her freshman campaign at State is still impressive to watch...

She captured her first state title Saturday morning, winning the 100 in 12.36 - a personal best of a tenth-of-a-second.

She battled early through the 100 before taking the lead nearly 50 meters and never looking back.

State title No. 1 - check.

A few hours later she toed the line in the 200 and duplicated her early success, only this time she was pushed to the line by Lutheran's Regan Aurich.

100 meters into the 200 and it Wright had work to do - Aurich held a slim lead. Though, just as she had done in the 100, she used the second half of the race to rage over the track, and the competition.

By the time she crossed the finish line she had state title No. 2, and PR No. 2 - running 25.23.
