Rocking It At The Rocky Mountain Lobo Invitational

Ella Johns opened her sophomore season in dominating style - running away from a solid field early.

By the first mile Johns was already running off and away without a competing shadow. Her lead only grew over the second mile, as this glorified tempo run led to the first win of her 2020 season.

Johns cruised over the challenging course - and through the enduring heat - in 19:51.

And when she was done, she took a few sips of water, congratulated her teammates on their runs, and then quickly darted out to make a 6 p.m. soccer practice across town.

Just another day in the office.

Behind her Loveland freshman Elena Torres opened her Milesplit account with a stellar 20:22 runner-up finish.

The freshman seemingly timed her race perfectly, sitting back early before using the second half of the course to surge.

The strategy worked.

Edythmae FrodlCadence Lapp, and Olivia Dickinson crossed the line in 3-4-5, all cracking 21 minutes. Frodl ran 20:31, while Lapp finished in 20:40, and Dickinson in 20:51.

In the team competition Loveland sealed the deal by putting three runners into the top six. They tallied 36 points to claim the title. Fossil Ridge was second with 47, and Rocky Mountain was third with 55.
