Sweet Victory At The LHS Sweetheart

Every time Elena Torres steps on the starting line she seems to be getting a little more comfortable - that much was obvious Friday afternoon.

The Loveland freshman took over the race just after the mile marker and never looked back.

Torres torched the field, and the course over the final two miles to finish in 19:12 - a 34-second victory.

Behind her, Mountain View freshman Kiera Shorten and Fairview senior Imani Fernandez-Gorbea took a more conservative approach on the course, running their way up from the pack.

Shorten kicked late to finish second in 19:46, which was just ahead of Fernandez-Gorbea's 19:56.

And then the team race was on.

Fairview put Josephine Atkinson and Amelia DiGiano into the top-10, while Devin Murphy ran away from the field in the second wave to finished 12th overall.

Fairview tallied 53 points, which was just ahead of Fossil Ridge and Loveland, who both tallied 59. Fossil Ridge took the tie-break on the sixth runner.
