Revving Up At The Jeffco 4A League Meet

From the opening strides it was clear we had a two-runner battle on our hands.

Grahm Tuohy-Gaydos and Zack Gacnik toed the line with two entirely different seasons behind them.

Tuohy-Gaydos was coming off his 14:57 East Meet victory last week, and five-consecutive victories in his back pocket, while Gacnik was racing for the third time this season, and the second since returning to the course from injury.

Despite their two-opposing entries into this race, they ran stride-for-stride through much of it.

Tuohy-Gaydos used a long drawn-out surge around two-and-a-half miles to separate himself from Gacnik, though Gacnik continued to press on, unwilling to put up the white flag.

Tuohy-Gaydos poured on the pace up front and ran to his sixth-consecutive victory in 15:59, while Gacnik was just eight seconds back in 16:07.

Behind these two Bryce Reeburgh and Topi Alahuhta battled for third. Reeburgh was able to shake Alahuhta over the final mile to take the honors, running 16:43. Alahuhta was 10 seconds back in 16:53.

Just like the girl's race, the boy's race saw a tight team battle.

This one was between the defending league champs, Confier, and Green Mountain.

Much like the battle between Tuohy-Gaydos and Gacnik up front, the team race went down to the wire as well.

Only this time the tables were turned, and Conifer came out on top.

Conifer put three in the top-five, with Isaac VanWestrienen backing up Gacnik and Alahuhta's 2-4 finish with a fifth-place finish of his own.

Westrienen's finish proved to be the deciding factor here, as Conifer and Green Mountain went stride-for-stride in their 4-5 runners. Green Mountain went 11-13 while Conifer was 12-15.

Conifer took the title with 38 points, which was four ahead of Green Mountain's 42. Littleton finished third with 60.
