Fire On The Track At The Grand Junction Tiger Invitational


Justin Blanton torched the competition to win the 100 in 10.90.

Dozens of athletes mingled around the water coolers by the finish line .

They took turns soaking up neon-colored towels before placing them over their heads.

You could see the heat sizzling upwards from the track. It looked like a highway in the summer, when the pavement goes unfocused as you scan into the distance.

That's one way to see heat. The other is to check your phone.

By 11 a.m. it was 95 degrees and rising

So, there wasn't a literal fire on the track inside Stocker Stadium at the Grand Junction Tiger Invitational, but it sure felt that way.
