The Colorado State T&F Championships 4A Preview

Can Niwot sweep the top of the podium in every track event from the 200 on up to the 3,200?

Surely, Mullen's Kaleah Ruff and Sand Creek's Jahzara Davis will have a say here...

Ruff heads to Jeffco as the favorite in the 100 - she's the only Sub-12 sprinter in the state. She also stands on top of the rankings in the 200 with a 24.58 best. Both of her personal bests came just last week, so clearly she's peaking right on time.

Though, Ruff will have to battle with the 2019 state champ - Taylor James, who has run 24.64 this season.

The 200 finals are scheduled for Saturday at 1:42.

James is the favorite to claim the 400 - she enters the state meet with a season best of 56.12, which is two-and-a-half seconds ahead of the field.

Interestingly enough, however, is that James is not entered in the event she won as a freshman (and a sophomore) - the 800.

But teammate Madison Shults is.

The Niwot sophomore's 2:08.27 personal best is a clear seven-seconds ahead of the field. She'll toe the line as the favorite to keep the 800 title in Niwot.

Niwot only looks stronger as we move up in distance. There is a legit possibility that they could sweep the top-two, if not three in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Mia Prok is the top seed in the 1,600 with a 4:53.90 clocking, and teammate Lucca Fulkerson is a second behind with a 4:54.22 season-best. Prok and Fulkerson will have to battle state cross country champ Bethany Michalak, however. Michalak has run 4:57.20 so far this season. Additionally, Shults is the No. 4 seed, having run 4:58.20.

The 3,200 looks a lot like the 1,600, only switched around a bit.

Niwot has the top-three seeds, led by Fulkerson's 10:43, and Prok's 10:47. They're the only two sub 11 clockings this year, so far.

Meanwhile, Kimora Northrup will look to sweep the hurdles - though she'll have Jahzara Davis to battle over the 100H. Davis owns the top time here, having clocked 14.54 just last week at the St. Vrain Invitational. The time was a half-second PR for the Sand Creek senior, meaning she's peaking just in time. Northrup's 14.58 PR suggests we've got a great race ahead of us.

The 100H final is scheduled to run Saturday at 9:44 a.m.

In the pole vault Megan Kelleghan is one of three who have cleared 13-0 in Colorado. She'll head to Jeffco as a big favorite to claim the event - her 13-0 clearance is just over two-feet beyond her nearest competitor.

The throws are likely to be exciting. The top thrower across all-classifications - Giavonna Meeks - headlines. Meeks owns bests of 161-0 in the discus, and 47-1 in the shot put.

The discus final is scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m., while the shot put final is scheduled for Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Agur Dwol will be eyeing a double in the jumps - she's the favorite in the long jump and the triple jump. Currently she's the only jumper in 4A who has leapt beyond 19-feet (she's gone 19-1), and she owns a US No. 4 mark of 41-4 in the triple jump.

If the previous 500-ish words haven't spelled it out enough, I'll pose the question: Can anyone compete with Niwot? They look to be a heavy favorite to claim the team title. Perhaps the question is: who will get second? Mullen looks like a strong contender there.
