Murray and Smith Voted Big 12 Cross Country Coaches of the Year

Texas Tech head coach Jon Murray and Oklahoma State head coach Dave Smith have been selected as the 2009 Big 12 Cross Country Coaches of the Year, as voted by the league coaches. This is the second conference accolade for both, after they guided their teams to back-to-back Big 12 Cross Country Championships.

In his fifth season at Tech and second at the helm of the cross country program, Murray’s women’s squad won its second-straight league championship. Tech boasted four runners in the top 10 at the Conference meet and tallied 38 team points.

Smith has been the head coach of the men’s cross country squad through four seasons. He is the fourth OSU cross country coach to lead his team to a conference championship and the first since 1995. The Cowboys claimed the top four finishes at the Big 12 event. Smith’s team scored 24 points overall, 32 points better than second-place Colorado.
