Big 12 Squads Prep for NCAA Regionals

Big 12 cross country teams will be in action on Saturday, November 14 at NCAA Regionals, all running for a berth to the 2009 NCAA Championships. The conference has four men’s and three women’s teams nationally-ranked heading into competition.

Baylor will play host to a regional meet for the second year in a row and sixth time in the last seven years. The South Central regional will feature Baylor, Texas and Texas A&M. Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will travel to Springfield, Mo. to participate in the Midwest regional. Colorado and Texas Tech will compete in the Mountain regional event in Albuquerque, N.M.

In the latest edition of the USTFCCCA national rankings, No. 2 Oklahoma State leads the league on the men’s side after winning the Big 12 Championship. The Cowboys are trailed by No. 5 Colorado, No. 18 Oklahoma, and No. 26 Iowa State. Sixth-ranked Colorado is the front-runner for the women,  Big 12 Champion Texas Tech is No. 8 and Iowa State comes in at No. 18.

The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held on Monday, Nov. 23, in Terre Haute, Ind. The top two teams from each regional earn automatic bids to the event, and the top four runners not associated with qualifying teams will advance as individuals. All teams and individuals will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 15.
