Colorado State Preview: Athletes To Watch In All Classes

5A

Where to start? In 5A it feels like there's something potentially big happening in every direction...

The girl's 100 looks absolutely loaded...

Symone Adams tops this rankings, though she'll have Peyton HolmesJulia PattisonSophia McHenryRachel Bair, and Casia Provencal to battle with.

Likewise, the 400 looks just as loaded - Kinsey Christianson tops the rankings with her 56.37, though Cherry Creek teammate Kel McDavid has run 56.58, and Pattison has run 56.60.

As we move up in distance it naturally becomes a Cherry Creek blue wave.

Riley Stewart will look to defend her three state titles from last year. She'll have Christianson in the 800, and looks quite dominate in the 1,600 and the 3,200, having already run 4:48 and state record of 10:08 in the 3,200.

On the topic of sweeping, Fabiola Belibi heads to Jeffco as the top-ranked hurdler. She's also the top-seed in the long jump with a 19-1 leap.

In the field keep an eye on the high jump, as Brooke Naughton will look to defend her state title - she's already gone 5-8 this year.

Likewise Lilly Nichols is just several weeks off her state-leading 13-4 in the pole vault. She currently leads 5A by over a foot in the event.

Like the 4A girl's 800, the 5A boy's 100 - on paper - looks like a "who'll take it from Grandview?"  Evan Johnson and David Maldonado lead the state with 10.60 and 10.62 clockings.

Meanwhile Lawrence Walker tops the 200 with his 21.50 clocking.

The 400 will play host to two of the best quarter-milers in the state. Ace Malone and Luke Dry have both cracked 48-seconds in the event. The last time these two met Malone took the W in 47.25 to Dry's 47.61.

Unlike the girl's side of the of the distance events, the boys appear up for grabs for the first time in years.

Mountain Vista's Tyler Downs will look to pick up where previous teammate Harrison Witt left off - Downs is the top seed in the 800, and the 1,600. But keep an eye on Bear Creek's Jacob Culig - he heads to Jeffco as a serious Dark Horse. Valor Christian's Drew Costelow is another one to keep an eye on - he's the No. 2 seed in the 1,600, and the No. 1 seed in the 3,200.

And ohhh we've got a battle coming in the hurdles...

PJ Robinson and Carsen Bruns should make for a great show in the 110H, while Bruns looks to be a big favorite in the 300H, though he'll have Jack Wetterling to battle with.

In the field events Brandon Hills will look to defend his long jump state title. He's already leapt to a state-leading 24-6 this season.

Meanwhile Jackson Wray heads to Jeffco fresh off his state-leading 15-8 PR in the pole vault.
