Wednesday, July 28

Through the first two days of the USATF JO National meet in Sacramento, several Colorado athletes have made their marks.

In the multi-events, Kobi Rex finished sixth (6097) in the young men's decathlon, while Tiffany Kenney finished fourth (4537) and Brittany Lewis sixth (4457) in the young women's heptathlon.

In the young women's 2000 meter steeplechase, Dominique Gerard scored an impressive third with a 7:23.35. Taylor Anders matched her place in the intermediate boys 2000 steeple with a 6:28.56. Finishing eighth in the intermediate boys 2000 steeple was Chandler Reid.

The only other events to take place thus far are the 4x800 relays and race walk events. The main track and field events get underway on Thursday.

Thursday, July 29

Gina Hauptman wins her preliminary heat of the 800 and runs the second-fastest time of the day for intermediate girls with a 2:17.39.

GinAsia Hamilton runs a 24.73 in prelims to win her heat and grabs the third-fastest seed into finals for the 200 meters.

Friday, July 30

Fresh off her qualification for finals in the 200, GinAsia Hamilton doubled up by qualifying for finals in the 400 meters with a 55.81.

Gina Hauptman and Sydney Scott made it two-for-two among Colorado's intermediate girls into the 1500 finals. Hauptman had the top qualifying time of 4:52.66.

In an event final, Danielle Williams took third in the triple jump with a combined leap of 38-8.75. In another event final, Megan Patterson took second in the shot put with a throw of 40-10.5.

Colorado's intermediate boys didn't experience quite the same level of success, but Daniel Weirich did nail down an 8th in the discus with a throw of 146-3.

Among the young women, Dominique Gerard and Ruth-Ann Hadjis claimed spots in the 1500 finals.

Saturday, July 31

Once again, it was the intermediate girls making headlines for the Colorado contingent. The biggest headline of all belongs to Gina Hauptman, who ran away with the intermediate girls 800 meter title in 2:15.24.

Also pulling down high places were GinAsia Hamilton with a second in the 200 at 24.38 (-1.2), Sydney Scott with a second in the 3000 at 10:30.71.

Sunday, August 31

GinAsia Hamilton was back at it again, this time running a 54.85, which was "only" good enough for fifth in the intermediate girls 400. You have to begin to wonder what the ceiling is for Ms. Hamilton.

Gina Hauptman narrowly missed a second title, running 4:42.63 for second in the intermediate girls 1500. Sydney Scott was close behind in fourth at 4:52.29.

In the young women's 1500, Dominique Gerard and Ruth-Anne Hadjis went 4-5 at 4:42.58 and 4:45.99, respectively.

And, with this weekend's events, I believe the 2010 outdoor season for Colorado high school age students is now officially in the books.
