For Windsor High School, they have a handful of very talented names that will help them score points in the individual events both on the field and the track. The other area where Windsor scores a lot of points is in the relays. They will have to get strategic with how they place some of their star sprinters, but if organized in the correct way and with other names on the team stepping up in the relays, Windsor can definitely repeat again as podium finishers at the state meet!
The Class 4A rankings are currently dominated by Kiana Cumings and Maya Brasch in the sprint events. Both Cumings and Brasch earned a lot of points for their team last year at the state meet with Brasch finishing 2nd in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m, and Cumings placed 1st in both the 200m and the 400m. In the relays, Cumings and Brasch both helped the team place 2nd in the 4x200m relay and Cumings helped the team run a state meet record in the 4x400m relay and a state title!
In terms of how they are doing so far this season, Cumings is ranked #3 in the 400m for all of Colorado, running a time of 54.93, and she is ranked #1 in Class 4A! She is also #2 overall in the state of Colorado in the 200m with a time of 24.35. Not too far ahead of her is Brasch, who is currently #1 for the state with a time of 24.33! Brasch is also ranked well in the 100m, where she is #3 in 4A and #4 in all of Colorado with a time of 11.99. Both Cumings and Brasch look to be on their A game so far this March, so they will once again pick up a lot of points in the 100m, 200m, and 400m. Some other individuals who will also help out include Tatum Gentry, Kylie Becker, Rylee Martin, and Amiyah Tweed. Starting with Gentry, she competed at the state meet in 2024 in the 100m and the long jump but did not quite get on the podium in either events. Though she did not compete last year so far this season, Gentry has long jumped 17-5, which puts her currently #5 in Class 4A! That jump is only a few inches off of her wind legal PR from last season, and it is still very early on into the season. Besides long jump, Gentry will definitely be a huge addition to some of the relay teams, because Windsor will need strong relays in order to have their shot on the podium. She has run times of 12.58 in the 100m and 26.59 in the 200m so far this season.
Next is Becker, who is one of their top throwers and ranked well in 4A. Becker placed 7th in discus at the state meet last year and 8th in shot put to scoop up a few points for team. So far, Becker is already ranked #5 in discus throwing 119-0! She is also ranked #14 in Class 4A in shot put with a mark of 33-2. Though she is a little off of her personal best marks, she is still starting this season very strong and has a lot of potential to improve on her finishes at the state meet from last year. Also doing well in shot put is Tweed, who did not go to the state meet last year, but is currently ranked #10 with a throw of 33-8.5! That throw is a fairly substantial PR from last year, so if she can continue to improve, she has a very good shot at helping out the team with more points. Finally, we have Martin, who just snuck on to the podium at the state meet for high jump last season finishing 9th overall. Martin has a personal best mark of 5-1, and she jumped 4-11 at the state meet for that 9th place finish. Though she had a tough opening meet, jumping 4-6, she has the history of competing at the state meet in the past. Plus, with how finicky high jump can be sometimes, Martin's past results prove that she cannot only make it to state, but make it onto the podium again.
The final step for Windsor High School to get on the podium again will be their creativity with filling in the relays. All of their sprint relays scored points at the state meet, and with the scoring potential in the individual events from Brasch and Cumings, they will need to strategize on where they will use these two for which relays and find other names to fill in the other spots. Though many of their relay runners have graduated, Windsor still has a strong lineup, and they have a good program. As long as they can find those names of people who can step up, such as Gentry, then this team can definitely repeat a podium finish.
