Big 12 Cross Country Teams Head To NCAA Regionals

The Big 12 men's and women's cross country teams will compete at NCAA Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 13, for a chance to advance to the 2010 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The conference has three men's and five women's teams ranked nationally heading into competition.

Baylor will play host to a regional meet for the third year in a row and seventh time in the last eight years. The South Central regional will feature Baylor, Texas and Texas A&M. The women's 6K will begin at 10 a.m., with the men's to follow at 11 a.m.

Seven Big 12 teams are set to compete at the Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill., including Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The women's 6K competition is slated to begin at 11 a.m., with the men's 10K race to follow at 12:15 p.m.

Colorado and Texas Tech will compete in the Mountain Regional in Salt Lake City, Utah. The women's race will start at 9:30 a.m., with the men's race at 10:30 a.m.

In the latest edition of the USTFCCCA national rankings, No. 1 Oklahoma State leads the league on the men's side after winning its third-straight Big 12 Championship title. The Cowboys are trailed by No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 9 Colorado. Big 12 Champion and third-ranked Texas Tech is the front-runner for the women. Colorado is ranked eighth, while Iowa State is 13th. Oklahoma State and Texas check in at No. 23 and No. 25, respectively.

The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held on Monday, Nov. 22, in Terre Haute, Ind. The top two teams from each regional earn automatic bids to the event, and the top four runners not associated with qualifying teams will advance as individuals. All teams and individuals will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 15.
