Kilgore Chooses Colorado

The decision is in for Holy Trinity senior David Kilgore. Wednesday night he announced that he will be running for the University of Colorado.

“I committed tonight. I talked to assistant coach Bill Nelson and then I called the other coaches of the other schools I was looking at. I contacted FSU, Auburn, and Indiana. They all wished me best of luck.”

Kilgore placed second in the 2009 1A cross country finals and then took gold in the mile at the state track and field championships in 2010. He says the Buffaloes were a perfect fit.

“I left here Saturday afternoon and got home on Monday night at like one in the morning, the week before regionals. I fit in really well with the team and knowing that me going there I could become the best runner I could be with the training and the coaching. Everything just clicked. I’m really happy and excited to go up there. I’m ready to experience it all.”

Kilgore will now get to experience what “running with the Buffaloes” is really like.  The legendary Boulder, Colorado program is one of the top cross country programs in the nation, and Kilgore says is excited to be a part of the tradition.

“I just feel that I am really blessed to even get considered by them and have a chance to go up there. I think that it’s going to give me the best chance to succeed at running and be a part of one of the best programs and best coaches ever.”

He plans on running the 5K and 10K in college and is glad recruiting process is over so that he can focus on a state title on Saturday.

“It wasn’t really planned, but I was just kind of deciding over the past week and it just came up. I’ve been talking to my coach and everything and it just really happened, but it’s good that it happened this way so that I can focus on the rest of the season. I guess I would be disappointed if I didn’t finish first (place). I guess it’s one of my goals, but if I don’t I won’t get beat up about it I’ve had a pretty good season.”
