Jovaughn Ewing, Eaglecrest High School: Ewing had a massive breakthrough performance this past Thursday at the Stutler Twilight, running two huge personal bests in the 100m and the 200m! The freshmen has the two fastest times for 9th graders in the state of Colorado, running 10.89 and 21.93! His previous best times were 11.29 and 22.64, demonstrating that huge improvement. His 200m time also ranks him in the top 25 in the whole nation for freshmen! Considering how much he improved this past weekend, it will be exciting to see what he does the rest of this season and how much he can drop his time.
Maya Aguilar, Windsor High School: Though Aguilar has only competed in the long jump once this season, this 9th grader has jumped the farthest out of any freshmen in the state! Her first time doing the event a couple weeks ago, she got out to 17-6.75, which also ranks her well in the state, sitting within the top 15! On top of her strong performance in the long jump, she also has PRs of 12.65 in the 100m and 26.00 in the 200m, which ranks her #4 and #2 for freshmen in those events as well.
Brandon Veasley Jr., Cherry Creek High School: Veasley Jr. had two huge performances this past week, running the fastest time in Colorado for the 100m and running a top 10 time in the 200m! The sophomore has been running quite well all season, with his previous best time in the 100m at 10.58, which he ran at the Pomona Invitational. He ended up finishing 2nd overall at the very competitive Pomona Invitational. Then this past weekend, he ran at The Stutler Twilight, winning the 100m in an impressive time of 10.40! With his time, he is ranked in the top 15 in the whole nation for sophomores! On top of his strong performance in the 100m, he ran 21.60 in the 200m at the same meet to finish 2nd overall. He also is ranked #5 for sophomores in the state of Colorado.
McKenna Alackness, Heritage High School: Alackness made lots of improvements during the fall season and was a big part of why Heritage High School did so well as a team during the cross country season. Even though she is only a sophomore, she making big jumps in her track times as well, including her 3200m where she ran an impressive time of 10:55! She also has a personal best time of 5:10 in the 1600m from this season as well, which ranks her #4 for sophomores. She started off the track season with times of 11:32 and 5:32 and has dropped her time immensely, and it will definitely be exciting to see how she continues to grow throughout the rest of this season and the rest of her high school career!
