Track and Field Rolls into April

This week's opportunity to catch up with Chyna Ries and her GW teammates comes at Friday's Broomfield Shootout. Photo by Jeff McCoy.

It's the busiest week of track and field so far this year!

Far from the I-25 corridor, you can take in the Warrior Wild West Invitational in Grand Junction or the Cedaredge Invitational in, well, Cedaredge. Out east, there will be the Burlington Invitational, the La Junta Open, and the Northeast Colorado Classic in Sterling.

Pueblo and Colorado Springs will be busy with the Pueblo County Hornet Invitational (Dutch Clark Stadium), the Pikes Peak Invitational at Garry Berry Stadium adjacent to Wasson High School, and the Sand Creek Scorpion Invitational.

The Foot of the Rockies Invitational gives Fort Collins a second consecutive Saturday of big meet action. The Denver Metro area is covered from corner to corner with the Broomfield Shootout on Friday and the Holy Family Tiger Tornado and Mountain Range Mustang Invitational on Saturday. Not to be missed is a small, but powerful, convergence of schools at the City of Littleton Championships on Friday.

Some much track and field, so little time!

Some of the weekends best potential matchups include:

1. Rachel Hinker vs. Christine Scott (100 and/or 200) at the Mountain Range Mustang Invitational.

2. A possible rematch for Natalie Anderson and Brandi Krieg at the Cedaredge Invitational?

3. Jarret Cure and Coley David (400 meters) at the Burlington Invitational.

4. Christian Archibald, TJ Frison, and Chris Ashe at the long jump pit at the Pikes Peak Invitational.

5. If you miss the PPI long jump, be sure to catch the triple jump--you should be able to see Kordale Taylor, Laquan Johnson, and Tony Carodine.

6. We can hope to see Mike Cernoia and Spencer Wenck going head-to-head in the 1600 and/or 3200 at the Pueblo County Hornet Invitational.

7. Who can count all the amazing matchup possibilities at the City of Littleton Championships on Friday? Only six schools, but catch this meet if you can--it's bound to be impressive.

Have fun, be safe, and keep coming back over the weekend as results go up! Photos and video from at least two of the weekends meets should start going up by Sunday at the latest.

Please contact me if you have some nice video of a big event from a meet I'm not able to attend. Although I'm very limited in the amount of video I can handle from outside sources, I'm happy to work with you to get great video on the site if you have it and want to show it.
