Nike Outdoor Nationals, New Balance Nationals, and Adidas Nationals all took place this past week, and Colorado had a lot of strong performances from these 9th and 10th grade boys across all three national meets. Check out the list!
Note: Names are in no particular order and are based on results of other 9th and 10th graders in Colorado.
9th Grade
Kayla Broecker: Broecker had a very busy national meet at Nike, where she competed in the emerging elite category of the 800m, the championship division of the 2 mile, and the freshmen division of the mile. Starting with the 800m, Broecker ran 2:14, placing 7th overall. In the 2 mile, she ran a strong time of 10:28, where she placed 16th overall! Finally, she won the freshmen division in the mile, running 4:54, which was a big PR!
Dylan Shaklee: Also competing in the freshmen mile at Nike, Shaklee ran 4:56 and placed 3rd overall! Her time was a massive PR, where her previous best was 5:15 in the 1600m. She moved up in the freshmen rankings to the top 3 from her previous ranking of #14.
Maya Aguilar: Aguilar competed in three freshmen events at Nike, running the 100m, 400m, and competing in long jump. In the 100m, she ran 12.43 to place 11th overall and almost made finals. She then ran 1:01.43 in the 400m, putting her at 42nd. Finally, she long jumped 17-4.5, which put her on the podium with a 5th place finish!
Ella Carillo: Carillo also competed in the freshmen division of the 100m at Nike, where she finished in a time of 12.83, placing 24th overall. She then competed in the emerging elite category in the 200m, since there is no freshmen division at Nike for that event and ran a strong time of 25.12, placing her 23rd overall!
Leah Noble: Noble competed at Nike in the 400m for the freshmen division, where she was very close to breaking 60 seconds, running 1:00.11! She ended up 25th overall in the division and was a couple seconds off of her personal best of 58.93, which is the 7th best time for freshmen in the state of Colorado from this spring season.
Alexys Anderson: Anderson hit a huge PR in the shot put to place 2nd overall in the 9th grade division at the Adidas National meet, getting out to 36-4! Her throw was also the second best throw for all athletes in the state of Colorado who competed at the various national meets. With her new personal best, Anderson ranks #2 for all freshmen in the state of Colorado.
10th Grade
Claire Haselhorst: Haselhorst was one of the best long hurdlers in Colorado for 10th graders, where she hit a mark of 46.02 in the 300m hurdles and ranked #8 for the grade in the state! In the 400m hurdles for the emerging elite category at Nike, she placed 56th overall with a time of 1:09.
Natasha and Ariel Hessler: The twins ran in the 5000m for the emerging elite category at Nike, both running new personal bests in the event. Natasha ran 18:20, placing 23rd overall and Ariel ran 18:28 to place 25th overall!
Maeve Vancik: Vancik held her own in the very competitive championship division at Nike in the mile and the 2 mile, where she ran 4:58 in the mile, placing 48th overall. In the 2 mile, she ran 10:46 to place 24th overall, ranking her very well against the rest of the nation considering she is just a 10th grader! She is the #2 fastest sophomore in the state for the 1600m and with her new PR in the 2 mile, the top ranked 10th grader in the 3200m.
Jasmine Larkin: Though not contested during the spring season, Larkin competed in the hammer throw at the Adidas National meet, throwing 123-9.75, which earned her 10th overall! She also threw the discus 114-7, placing her at 17th. Her PR of 125-0 was the top throw for all sophomores in the discus in the state.
Ruby Snyder: Snyder sat at the top of the list for sophomores in the 100m hurdles all season as the fastest hurdler for the grade in the state of Colorado with her wind-legal PR of 14.29! She placed 28th overall in the championship division at Nike, running a time of 14.69. She also placed 16th in the emerging elite section of the 100m with a time of 12.27.
Calia Vaughn: After running a huge PR in the mile at the beginning of June, running 4:45, Vaughn chose to just race the 800m at the Nike National meet. She came away with a 33rd place finish in the championship division with a time of 2:11! Her mile time puts her at #1 for 10th graders and one of the fastest times in the whole state of Colorado and her PR of 2:10 in the 800m is #1 for all sophomores as well.
Rhyan Gadlin: New Balance Nationals always produces strong sprinters, and Gadlin placed quite well in the 100m hurdles for the championship, where she ended up 30th overall with a time of 14.31! She was very close to her all-conditions PR of 14.20, which is the #2 ranked time in Colorado for 10th graders.
Liliana Purohit: Just a little bit off of her personal best mark in the triple jump of 37-.5, Purohit placed 16th overall at Nike in the emerging elite division. She hit a mark of 36-4, but her personal best jump from the spring season ranks her at #3 for the state for all 10th graders.
Maya Scott: In the emerging elite section of the high jump at Nike, Scott tied her personal best of 5-5, which tied her for 1st place! Her jump also puts her at the top of the list for all sophomores in the state of Colorado.
Ava Wankelman: In pole vault, Wankelman placed 2nd overall for the emerging elite division getting over the bar at 11-3! Though she has hit 12-2 before, she showed a lot of poise this season as an underclassmen, hitting the 5th best vault for all of Colorado this season!
