Doherty to Host Benefit Run in Conjunction with Scrimmage

The Doherty High School Cross Country team is hosting a scrimmage and benefit run on Saturday August 27th at Doherty High School.  The event begins with a high school scrimmage at 8:00am followed by a benefit run for “Half the Sky Foundation,” sponsored by Boulder Running Company and Doherty Athletics.

Last month the Colorado Springs and Doherty communities experienced a tragedy.  Family physician and community volunteer, Dr. Alex Constantinides lost his wife and three children in a flash flood in Wyoming.  He and his wife adopted their three children and dedicated their lives to giving to their community and sharing their lives with orphaned children in China.  Dr. Alex asked that any donations be given to the “Half the Sky Foundation,” the organization that assisted them in adopting two of their three daughters, rather than to his family or their memorial.  We at Doherty High School have come to know Dr. Alex as a caring individual sharing his time by volunteering as our Athletic Department’s team doctor.  We feel we can most honor the memory of the Constantinides family through holding a benefit event for “Half the Sky Foundation,” in their name.

We are inviting runners and walkers of all ages and schools to run in our benefit run.  The public race will cost $20 and you will receive a t-shirt and a great morning run for a good cause.  Any high school coach interested in bringing their team to the free scrimmage, please email Coach Duensing at duensrm@d11.org.
