Fastest Coach in the State Race

Christensen and Bode won last year, but are their crowns safe for another year?

It's back, and looking to be bigger and meaner than before.

This year's Fastest Coach in the State race returns to the Lyons cross country course. This year, however, the date falls at a point of the year that should be predictably warmer than last year's date and also one where all the cross country coaches in the state will still have some of their fitness from the fall season still in place. That would be code language suggesting this year's race should be faster than last year's.

Get out your magic marker and circle Saturday, November 24, on your calendar, because that's where we'll decide it all.

Can Kelly Christensen and Ruby Bode repeat as champions, or will there be usurpers to the thrones this year? Will Christensen be able to pull his head coach out of retirement for this race? Will anyone even be willing to take on Bode for the women's crown?

All coaches, middle school, high school, or even college, are invited to take part in the event (Oops, did we just invite Art Siemers? Kelly, you'd better double up on that training regime for the next three weeks cheeky). The registration fee is a mere $5, paid on the morning of race day. Please bring some version of your school uniform to wear for the 5K race on one of Colorado's premiere cross country courses.

For more information, contact Coach Roberts at Lyons High School (roberts_mark@svvsd.org) or Ben Hershelman  at Jefferson Academy (bhershelman@jajags.com). Then come out for a morning of fun and camaraderie. Bring your own cheering section. It would be nice this year if the sum total of all other cheering sections present exceeded the size of Coach Roberts' cheering section this year.
