Jenna Fitzsimmons and Brynn Siles won't just be battling for the best in the class this fall, but the best in 5A.

The girl's junior class just may have two of the best cross country runners in the state, and that's saying a lot, given how loaded the senior class is. It's close...

What gives the junior class its flare are the duo of Jenna Fitzsimmons, and Brynn Siles

Fitzsimmons is the defending state champion, though Siles won every race she competed in last year, including Liberty Bell where she beat Fitzsimmons by a solid margin. The battle was set for state, though the clean sheet of victories for Siles was dashed the morning of the big dance when injury sidelined her.

Fitzsimmons did go on for a dominating sweep of the distance events in track, claiming the Triple Crown (XC, 3,200, and 1,600), but I'd imagine Siles is thirsty to complete a season with a state title, given how close she came last year. While we're only talking about the junior class, that 5A state meet is already looking like a battle of the titans.

Six returners broke 18 last year, and 27 dipped under 19.
