Cherry Creek's Riley Stewart leads the freshmen class through the month of August.
The first month of the season, like the first year of high school. It's a time to find your stride. And for freshmen, it's a time to really find your stride.
Now that we've had a few weeks to shake things out, we're starting to get the picture of what the season is going to look like. And even then, this list cutoff Friday, August 31 - so meets run Saturday morning were not included in on this list.
Regardless, we've seen some fresh faces already making waves on the courses across the state. Basically, we're seeing that some freshmen hit the ground - running - at fast speeds.
Cherry Creek's Riley Stewart is on top of the freshmen leader board through the month August. She's run 18:51, and is one of two freshmen who have already dipped under the magical 19 minute barrier. The other being Eagle Valley's Samantha Blair, who has run 18:59 this season.
And then there's Cherokee Trail's Cameron McConnell who has run 19:00.00. If there's anything that stings for a runner, it's being on the over side of a .00. Fortunately, there's still the rest of the season ahead for McConnell to break 19.
In another perspective...
In the first month of the season, two have broken 19 minutes, 14 have broke 20 minutes, and 29 have broken 21 minutes.
