Austin Vancil's 15:51 win at Centaurus is a new state-leading time.

Austin Vancil's first go at the 5k distance proved fruitful. The Dakota Ridge senior came out of the gates with a state-leading 15:51 at the Centaurus Cross Country Invitational. He was the lone runner under 16 minutes this weekend, and No. 5 on the season.

Maybe it was the hair. It was quite difficult to crop him, and that fro into the frame as not to trim any curls out. But it's like he said, the fro helps on, and off the track.

Behind Vancil and his curls, we saw no movement within the top-five, but a whole new cast after that. Teammate Connor Ohlson moved into the No. 6 spot with a near-sub 16 run at Centaurus. The Dakota Ridge junior ran 16:.00.00. Don't worry - there's always Liberty Bell.

Another new face within the top 10 was Greeley Central's Simon Kelati, who opened his season with a win at the Andy Myers Invite in 16:01.

Ryan Outler and Seth Bruxvoort made perhaps the biggest jump this season. Outler is proving to be the real deal (more on him later), with his 16:02 win at Widefield - that's No. 8 on this list, while Bruxvoort smashed his PR to run 16:12 and move into the No. 10 spot.

Below are the top 50 boys as of Sept. 3.
