Cameron McConnell's 17:17 from Desert Twilight leads a stellar freshmen class.
Four Sub 18s.
Four Sub 18 minute 5ks for the girl's freshmen class in the month of September.
And it's nearly five.
It's hard to imagine that Cherokee Trail's Cameron McConnell opened her season with a 20:18, because she's now tallied three sub 18 minute clockings to her name, including a 17:17 class-leading time from Desert Twilight this past weekend. This time a month ago she held a personal best of 19:00.
And Eagle Valley's Samantha Blair is another September surprise, after going 18:59 in August. At the end of September she's got two sub 18s to her name, including a 17:36 PR from Liberty Bell.
Coming in No. 3 this month was Cherry Creek's Riley Stewart, who hasn't run slower than 18:54 this season. She's run 17:48 this month, which was a fourth place finish at the Nike Portland XC Invite this past weekend.
New to the top 10 this month was Evergreen's Lanie Szuch, who cracked 18 for the first time this season with her 17:53 at Desert Twilight.
And perhaps one of the biggest jumps this month came from Emily Beckner, who opened her 2018 season with a 20:58 performance. At the end of August Beckner held a PR of 20:16, which was No. 16 in the class then.
Beckner went 18:04 this past weekend to come in No. 5 for the month of September.
Nearly every freshmen from Beckner down to No. 10 opened their season over 20 minutes. We'll call that the Freshmen Curve.
The top 10 have run under 18:52 this month. 13 have gone under 19, 39 under 20, and 81 have broken 21 minutes.
