Arapahoe's Ava Mitchel and Ava Escorcia are the top two freshmen through August.
Freshmen are perhaps the most dangerous runners on the course - and with good reason.
They're quickly finding out how fast they can run, and more often than not, the elite among them are emerging to the fronts of the packs by mid-season, and making a race of it by State. They only get more powerful with each outing on the course.
Look no further than this lists - because there are a handful of future state champs right here...
Topping this list are The Avas - the Arapahoe duo of Ava Escorcia and Ava Mitchell. They came out of the gates swinging at the Windjammer Invite a few weeks ago, going 1-2 in 19:06 and 19:09. This 1-2 freshmen punch really gives Arapahoe an edge on the team front - and it's already showing in the latest Coaches Poll that has them No. 4.
Another freshman to keep an eye on is The Classical Academy's Sawyer Wilson, who dropped a 19:13 in her first high school 5k at the Widefield Cross Country Invite, and led the 3A defending state champs.
