The dust has settled following Colorado State's third straight women's track & field conference title, but for 22 CSU athletes, the 2016 outdoor season continues Thursday in Lawrence, Kan., at the West Preliminary Round of the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Seven CSU men and 15 CSU women will don the green and gold this weekend at the University of Kansas' Rock Chalk Park to attempt qualification for the NCAA Championships in June. The CSU men’s and women’s track & field teams each took third place in the quadrangular competition as the Kansas Relays wrapped up Saturday at Rock Chalk Park. The women collected 150 points for third place behind Kansas and Nebraska, while the men scored 164 points to finish third behind Nebraska and Kansas. Karly Reimel broke her own school record in the women’s outdoor pole vault on Saturday, marking 13 feet, 4.25 inches to take third place. CSU’s domination of the men’s shot put was another highlight of the meet’s final day, as phenom Mostafa Hassan won the event with a toss of 63 feet, 2.25 inches while the Rams had five of the top six finishers in the event.

The CSU track & field program announced the signings of 10 athletes to its 2016-17 roster Friday. All event areas are represented in the new class, which features five additions to the women's team and five additions to the men's team who hail from all over the nation. CSU head coach Brian Bedard is encouraged by the class, remarking that "the quality of the athletes we having coming in is getting better and better. When CSU junior Josh Cogdill sustained a foot injury in January, doctors doubted he would return in 2016. The dates of the 2016 Jack Christiansen Invite, hosted by CSU track & field at Colorado State’s Jack Christiansen Track, have been changed to April 14-16. The program’s annual outdoor track & field meet was originally set for April 21-23, but has been moved due to a scheduling conflict. The Glenn Morris multi-event portion of the competition will be held Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15, while the track & field events will begin Friday and continue throughout Saturday, April 16.

The NCAA announced the qualifying athletes for the 2016 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships on Tuesday, with three Colorado State athletes qualifying to represent the Rams against the nation’s top competitors in Birmingham, Ala., on March 11-12. Junior Jefferson Abbey will compete in the men’s 3,000-meter run, while fellow junior Jerrell Mock will participate in the 5,000-meter run and sophomore Mostafa Hassan will compete in the shot put. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced its 2016 Indoor Track & Field all-conference team today, with 13 Colorado State athletes receiving honors in a total of 16 events. The CSU women, crowned Saturday as the 2016 MW indoor champions, received six selections while the men’s team garnered 10 all-conference accolades. Aaliyah Pete was the lone CSU woman to receive two awards, while Tyler Schultz and Jerrell Mock each received two awards on the men’s side. After an amazing weekend in which two men’s school records were handily broken, the CSU men made a significant move in this week’s USTFCCCA national team rankings. Previously ranked 107th, the Rams are 54th in the current rankings, released Feb. 15. The men remained fourth in the USTFCCCA Mountain Region, while the women remained second in the Mountain Region and moved to 98th nationally.

The Colorado State women’s track & field team exhibited an historic effort across the board en route to first place at the New Mexico Team Invitational on Saturday, scoring 113.5 points in part due to three school records as it edged Nebraska by 1.5 points. Senior Karly Reimel broke her own week-old school record in the women’s indoor pole vault with a mark of 13 feet, 3.5 inches, while junior sprinter Leah Fair followed suit by breaking her own school record in the women’s indoor 200-meter dash with a blazing time of 23.95 seconds. Reimel finished second in the event, breaking Christine Ahn’s nearly 13-year old record by 4.5 inches. Both the men’s team and women’s team finished third at the quad meet behind Nebraska and Wichita State.

After coming close to both the indoor and outdoor high jump records during his sophomore season, Scheer cemented his name in the CSU record books by equaling Matt Hoskins’ 1988 jump on Saturday for the event victory. Scheer was not the only Ram to place his name in the record books, however, as senior Karly Reimel, a transfer athlete from Florida State, tied the second-best women’s pole vault in CSU indoor history with a mark of 12-5.5.

Several members of the Colorado State track & field team will be in Boulder, Colo. on Friday for the Potts Invitational. The rest of the squad will head to Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday for the Nebraska adidas Classic. This will be the first weekend of competition in the new year for the Rams and the second of the season as the team was in Laramie for the Wyoming Open on Dec. 5. The adidas Classic will feature some tough competition as Nebraska, Kansas State, Wichita State, Air Force and Missouri will be competing against the Rams.
