How Does Your State Track Meet Compare with Other States?

Most people have an idea that their state track and field meet isn't exactly like the state track and field meets in every other state. Track and field is subject to a lot more regional variation than most high school sports. What most people don't know, however, is exactly how their state meet differs from meets in other states. The table below is intended to help answer that question.

The table shows the track and field events for each state. Every state has the 100, 200, 400, 800, 100/110 hurdles, 4x100, 4x400, high jump, long jump, shot put, and discus, so these events are not included on the table. All other events are included on the table (as well as a column indicating how many places score at the state meet in each state). Red indicates the state has that event. White indicates the state does not have the event. Yellow means the state has the event, but only for one gender.

Have fun comparing your state meet against other state meets across the nation. And, maybe if you want your state association to consider adding another event, this table can help you come to the meeting prepared with solid information about what other states have.

Every effort has been made to make the above table conform with the most recent state meets. If you find an error in this table, please contact me at the e-mail address in the lower left corner of this page.
