Alabama-Huntsville is a long way, in more than one respect, from home. Tell us what brought you to the put where you decided that was the school for you?

Going into the college search I knew that I wanted to run DII and I also wanted a school with a great engineering program. On my official visit I saw that UAH was just that and the perfect place for me. The team atmosphere was great and Coach Cain has really built an outstanding program. I feel that the city of Huntsville is the perfect size for me, it has that small town feel but also has plenty of job opportunities for when I graduate.

What is your anticipated field of study at UAH?

I plan on attaining a degree in civil engineering.

You had great races at both Cheyenne Mountain Stampede and at State. Is the course a favorite of yours?

I love the Cheyenne Mountain course. It's a tough course and that's what makes it so fun. You never get great times, but in cross country placing is all that matters.

During your time at Custer County, you haven't really had anyone to train with you at the kind of paces you need to run workouts. How have you managed to get things done in spite of that?

It has been difficult running for such a small school and going through a lot of coaching changes. There is always highs and lows and in the end you really need to just make sure to learn from what you are doing. You have to bring out your inner running nerd and just try and learn everything you can about training. As far as pacing through workouts you have to treat it like big mental game, its a solitary world.

Between cross country and all the track distances, do you have a favorite event?

I'd have to say my favorite event is the 1600m. I think that due to some tough circumstances last year I never really got the opportunity to run at my full potential. I know I have a lot more to give this year.

Are you willing to share any goals you have for the remainder of your high school career, either for this week at Nike Cross Regionals, over the winter, or into the outdoor season in the spring?

Right now my mindset is on NXR, but after that race all my focus goes to the 1600 in the spring. The goal for me from now till then is to negative split every workout and race.
